DIY Holiday Wreath

DIY Holiday Wreathfeatured

When it comes to DIY projects, wreaths are one of my favorites. It is the quickest and easiest way to get your space in the holiday spirit. Of course wreaths can be purchased almost anywhere, but when you make your own it gives you complete creative design and customization.

Whether you have a running theme for your holiday decor or you switch it up every year, making a wreath is quick and easy.  You do not need fancy tools or supplies to get this project done.

What you need to get started:

  • 24"grapevine wreath
  • Evergreen branches ( I used two heavily foliaged branches)
  • Wired holiday ribbon
  • Bells
  • Berry stems
  • Plastic Ornaments
  • Pine Cones with wire stems
  • Wire (22 gauge)
  • Wire cutters

1. Grab the grapevine wreath, branches and wire. Find the center of the wreath and secure the branches to the wreath end to end, on one side of the wreath with the wire. Where the two ends meet is where the bow will be placed.

2. Once your branches are in place start placing your berry stems and pine cones around to fill in any gaps in foliage. Secure the ends of the berry stems to the wreath.

3. The next step is to create your bow. I used two different patterns of wide wire ribbon to create my bow and secured it to the wreath. I found some pretty wired ribbon this year. Below are sample ribbons and decor items that I used.

4. Once your bow is in place, finish decorating with ornaments and bells. I strung the ornaments with wire and secured them to the wreath. I found this better than using a hot glue. I did the same with the bells. At this stage you can keep it simple and let the bow stand out or you can add lots of decor and make it full. Whatever you do have fun!

5. The final step is to secure a thicker wire to the back of the wreath for hanging, for example a 16 or 18 gauge wire or use a wreath door hanger. Hang this wreath in your favorite spot and enjoy!
