Charcuterie Board DIY

Charcuterie Board DIYfeatured

I can NOT get enough of marble! Although, as I stated earlier, it can be challenging to work with at times some really beautiful pieces can be made with marble. Like this Marble & Wood Charcuterie Board.

A Charcuterie Board is an absolute MUST in a home and especially for those of us who like hosting. Even if you are not a meat and cheese type of person, a board like this can be used for many other food displays like s'mores, mini breakfast pancake board with fruit, bagel & spreads, and chocolate.

While I was at the tile and granite store I found a piece that was the perfect size and went well with some left over wood from a past project.

The overall dimensions for this board are 12in x 10 in

Let's get started. You Got This!

Supplies

  • 12in x 6in marble tile
  • 3/8in - 6in x 3ft pine board (this should be the same depth as the marble)
  • Drill with 1 inch hex shank spade bit
  • Silicone adhesive
  • Sand paper 120 grit and 220 grit
  • Table Saw or Circular Saw

Instructions

  1. Lay the pine board flat and mark your cuts with a pencil. The length is 12 inches and the height is 4 inches.
  2. To make the angle cuts come up from the bottom of the wood piece 2 1/2 inches and cut the angle at 45 degrees. Repeat on the other side.
  3. For the finger hole - mark the top center of the board at 6 inches and drill hole with 1 in hex shank spade bit.
  4. Sand all sides with 120 grit sandpaper and then repeat with 22o grit until there is a smooth finish.
  5. Using the silicone adhesive, adhere the wood to the marble edge. Clean off any residue of adhesive.
  6. Secure with clamps and set aside to dry for at least 36 to 48 hours. (follow instructions on adhesive)
  7. Once the adhesive is cured apply one coat butcher block oil to the wood and let dry then sand with 220 grit sandpaper and apply block oil again and dry completely

VoilĂ  you are all done.

Now it is time to put that board to WORK! Whether it is cured meats and cheeses with the girlfriends or s'mores with the family this board is ready for it all.

Thoughts & Lessons

Mind the depth of your marble and your wood piece. If the wood is thicker than the marble surface you will have to either sand or use a planer to make the surface even with the marble. I sanded the edges of the wood quite a bit and it made the wood a hair shorter than the marble. Next time I would add about a quarter of an inch to the wood piece because I am a heavy sander. I love that the marble did not have to be cut for this board so that made it quick to assemble.
