Office Decor Finds

Gearing Up.

As we are gearing up to get the kids back to school, it is also great time to spruce up your office or home work station.

I get so excited when I walk into the store and see binders, desk accessories, decorative paper, and fresh pens and pencils. I suddenly get the urge to re-decorate my work space.

This year I was asked to decorate someone else's office. Yeeek! I am so excited, and the major plus is that I don't have to explain to my husband why I am re-decorating our home office....again.

Back story!

The client lives out of state and recently started her career as a Social Worker. She is super busy with work and although she loves the idea of decorating she needed some inspiration. She loves pink, navy blue and gold and wanted an office space where she could relax and reenergize and it also be a space that is inviting and inspiring for her clients.

Social Workers have a special place in my heart because I page them often while at work to help patients and families with various things.

Let me tell you. They are MIRACLE workers.

Getting Started.

Initially, my plan was to gather all the decor items from various stores and ship them to her in a box. I called it my "decoration box". However, I found out that lugging boxes up to the UPS or FedEx store would be exhausting and expensive. The best solution was to shop the largest e-commerce store in the US - better known as Amazon.

This way I could scour the site and find the best items (with good reviews)  and the right dimensions for her space.

When decorating a borrowed office space - meaning it is owned by your company, there may be some rules. So before you go purchasing ceiling lights and drilling holes in the wall just ask about office policy.

Again these items were tailored for her with her office policies in mind.

Creating this collage was fun and easy. The best part about it was the shopping!

Check out the collage below and Amazon links to purchase.

The Basics

There are some items that an office must have: storage, trash can, lighting, clock, chair, desk and usually there is a phone floating around somewhere.

Sometimes these items can be removed or replaced and some cannot...again check the office policy.

Decor Items

1. Inspirational Wall Art-One of the specialty items that I chose for this project was the inspirational wall art. I absolutely love it. It is encouraging for both employee and client and are words of affirmation that everyone needs to hear everyday.

2. Air purifier -  this is important especially if you suffer with allergies or you are in a high traffic area at work. It also works in small spaces to keep the air clean and to create a healthier indoor environment.

3. Desk Chair - Most of the time the desk chair at work is not the best and your lucky if it comes with wheels. Having a sturdy desk chair that is also comfortable should be No.1 on the list.

4. Wire Grid Board - If you are unable to hang multiples items on the wall a wire grid board is the answer. The board can be hung with removable hooks that stick on the wall. Calendars, photos, notes and other miscellaneous things can be hung directly on the wire grid. Items can be easily removed when seasons change or the quarter ends and you need more space.

5. Client chair- The client chair is important to make the client feel comfortable. When in need of social services it may be difficult to ask help or feel uneasy so it's important to make the client comfortable.

6. Desk pad- I love this desk pad. Why? Because a separate mouse pad is not needed. This all in one pad is large enough to fit the key board, mouse and a notebook. It is no-slip and waterproof.

7. Side Table/Storage - I like to have a side table in the office to help with storage and to display decor. This table is great for displaying  the Keurig and even a K-Cup stand. Storage boxes like the blue and gold ones below can also be added to the bottom shelf.

8.  Bluetooth Speaker - I feel like I work better with some tunes in the background. So a bluetooth speaker is a wonderful thing to have. Music has the ability to clam and speak to the soul.

9. Flowers and Greenery - Flowers and greenery bring color and vibrancy to the space. Even if it is artificial it gives guests something to look at. There are some well put together artificial arrangements that you literally have to touch to see if it is real.

10. Coat hook - Coat hooks are a better option because coat stands are outdated and take up space. Two or three of these eye catching, gold coat hooks on a wall will keep those coats off the floor and chair.

11. Desk Lamp - Good lighting is a must for your eye health and well being. Eye strain can be frustrating and cause headaches.

12. Other Decor Finds:

Trash Can

Marble Coasters

Metal Desk Organizer

Cell Phone Stand

Gold Stapler

Desk Sign

Navy & Gold Clock

Floating Picture Frame

Stackable Letter Tray

Decorative Pillows

Pink & Gold File Folders

Final Thoughts

Overall, it was really fun working on this project.

A collage board/vision decor board is a great way to get started when decorating your space and to get everything organized. Be sure to get the measurements so there are no surprises when the item arrives.

When using a e-commerce site add items to a wish list and you will be able to keep track of costs. This is the best way to stay on budget.

As seasons change and the year goes round seasonal decor times can be added. For example during fall white pumpkins and navy and gold accents can be added.
