Personalized Round Serving Boardfeatured
This quick DIY serving board adds a personalized touch to your kitchen decor. It also would be a great customized gift to give on occasions such as weddings and housewarmings. This project could be done in one day. However, with a four year old this took me a few more days.
To customize the board I used a wood burning tool. Although this was tedious I liked the end results and it really gave it that handmade, one-of-a kind look. I used a stencil for the name but you could also free-hand on the board and trace with marker (so that it doesn't smudge). It is fun to get creative and use whatever phrase, images or sayings that you like.
So if you are thinking about making a personalized gift for someone, and you do not have a ton of time on your hands then this project will not disappoint.
Materials/Tools
- 1-1/4 ft Round Board - hardwoods are the best choice
- Sander
- Sandpaper 120, 220,320 grit
- Tack Cloth
- Wood burning tool
- Electric Drill with 1" shank spade bit
- Stencil with name, saying, phrase, image
- Butcher block oil
- Tape measure
- Marker
Instructions
Using the sander, start sanding the entire board with 120 grit sandpaper. Gradually increase grit until you get to the 320 grit paper and the board is buttery smooth.
Using the tape measure find the top center of the board. Measure about 1.5" from the top edge and drill a hole with the electric drill and 1" shank spade bit. Clean board with tack cloth to remove all dust.
Next center the stencil on the cutting board and trace with a marker.
Use the wood burning tool and tips to burn the name into the wood. Hint: start with tracing the letters then fill it in for more depth.
Once the board has been customized to your liking use butcher block oil to seal and protect your wood. A wood stain can be used if you do not plan to have food coming in contact with the board.
Once the board has dried you may gift, display or use your newly personalized project.
You are all done!
