Exam Tablefeatured

Ok. So I know an exam table is not exactly at the top of your  DIY project list. However, I decided to blog about it because it was a journey that I went on at the asking of a dear friend who opened a medical clinic.

This was an upholstered wood exam table that measured 72" long, 27" wide and 30" tall . Since the clinic will serve adults and children I wanted to make the exam table as sturdy as possible. I decided to use 4x4's for the legs with 2x4 supports under the cushion table top and sanded 3/4 thick plywood.

I know sanded plywood is more expensive but if you are upholstering or painting it. It is worth every penny and saves time. For the exam table top, I used marine upholstery vinyl fabric and 1" supportive cushion foam and batting. I chose marine vinyl because it is extremely durable, antimicrobial, moisture and stain resistant and resistant to color fading and cracking. The foam was secured to the plywood with adhesive glue. Batting was applied and the fabric was secured to the underside of the plywood with upholstery staples.

I sanded the legs and side slats to 220 grit and used cherrywood stain for the wood. I really liked the contrast of cherrywood and black so I used matte black paint for the shelf.

Overall, I really enjoyed making this table and I was pleased with the outcome. Unfortunately, I wont be sharing the step by step instructions of this build specifically because there was a lot of trail and error with building the shelf.
